Our Evening With the Chicks event this past Friday was a success! Despite the threat of bad weather we had a great turnout and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. There was plenty to keep us all busy — making an iPad stand, shopping at Magpie, visiting with friends both new and old, and an abundance of food and drink to consume. I really think that most of us met at least one or two new people and even better, I noticed several women getting each other’s contact information, which, to me was exactly what the night was about.
The Georgetown Makery and Magpie provided us a perfect backdrop for the evening; our surroundings were warm and welcoming. I’m glad we had the project/craft to work on because I think sometimes if we’re actively doing something, it’s easier to bond and we aren’t as self-conscious. Having that common activity right off the bat instantly gave us something to talk about which made the conversation less stressful or forced.
I’ve since spoken to several friends who were at the event and they had great things to say, which was nice to hear. One friend even said my exact thought, “If you don’t have children or they’re grown, it’s really hard to step out of your comfort zone and make friends. It was neat to hear other women’s stories.” I couldn’t agree more. It’s even more difficult when you show up to an event and know absolutely no one. For me, that’s one of the hardest things in the world to do, so I tip my hat to those very brave women who did just that. You’re my heroes!
During the evening we had several giveaways and all the chicks got to take home a party favor to remember our night out together. Thank you to everyone who attended Evening With the Chicks, who came out to make our event very special and successful! Hope to see you all again soon.
